“Wang Jianyong, are you here to meet us?” “Yes, you are going too slowly, and you don’t have my electric wheelchair...” The picture shows disabled Wang Jianyong sitting in his own hand-made electric three-wheeled wheelchair Deng Hongshan .
On August 8, the Hongshan Park in Urumqi, Xinjiang ushered in a special group of tourists, who were handicapped from the streets of the Yangtze River Road Office. They spoke with the street chief of the street office and the disabled Wang Jianyong.
On August 8th, the Yangtze River Road street office organized a mountaineering for people with disabilities in the area of the organization. When the team came up the mountain, the reporter discovered that Wang Jianyong was sitting in a wheelchair that was shorter than a normal wheelchair, and the wheelchair had only three wheels. There were chains and handrails on the front wheels, like the steering wheel of a car.
The 53-year-old Wang Jian was very thin and his calf was shrinking. Wang Jianyong said: "My family lives on the second floor. Before I went downstairs, I had to rely on my parents. It was fortunate that I had invented this electric wheelchair. I could only go out on my own." Wang Jianyong is a resident of the Peacock community on the Yangtze River street, suffering from poliomyelitis. He could not walk when he was young, but he has created many miracles in wheelchairs. The reporter in the chat was informed that Wang Jianyong's wheelchair was transformed on the basis of an ordinary wheelchair, driven by a battery, and has obtained national patents.
Not only that, in 2004, Wang Jianyong and seven disabled friends traveled through the Taklamakan desert. It was the crossing that allowed Wang Jianyong to invent an electric wheelchair.
Before 2004, as a peasant, Wang Jianyong had been bitter for not working in the ground. "But suddenly one day, I think the crops in the field can grow so long. Why should I be in a wheelchair and not be able to do something? So I contacted a few people to plan to cross the Taklamakan Desert together," said Wang Jianyong.
“When I crossed the desert, I sat in an ordinary hand-cranked wheelchair, 522 kilometers away from Korla to Minfeng. Not only was I tired, but I was also injured. I decided to become an electric wheelchair at the time,” said Wang Jianyong.
After returning from the Taklimakan Desert, Wang Jianyong spent three months transforming an ordinary wheelchair into an electric wheelchair. In order to buy various spare parts, he traveled through Urumqi's bicycle shops. After continuous trials, it was finally refitted. Wang Jianyong said that since 2005, he has transformed eight electric wheelchairs. The one he is currently sitting in is an eighth-generation modified version. “I installed a solar visor for the wheelchair and recharged it with the battery. The speed was 25-30 kilometers per hour. There was a gear shift in the wheelchair to control the speed. Not only that, but I also kept the original characteristics of the wheelchair. It is collapsible. This electric wheelchair can be opened in two to three minutes."
Wang Jianyong said that he plans to organize disabled friends to cross the desert next year, on the one hand to promote his electric wheelchair, and on the other to commemorate the last crossing.
Hou Jie told reporters that there are many disabled people like Wang Jianyong who have skills in the Yangzijiang Road Subdistrict office. “Yang Wen of the CDPF in Heilongjiang community is also a disabled person, but he is proficient in computers and enters the community and he is doing well.” Hear someone praised himself. Wang Jianyong and Yang Wen smiled shyly.
On the top of the mountain, everyone began to take pictures and the staff of the CDPF sent souvenirs to everyone. On the same day, the street office of the Disabled People's Federation donated 4 wheelchairs to 4 persons with severe disabilities in the area. (Reporter Liu Wei correspondent Zou Zhou)
